Saul Niguez will push for Man Utd transfer – and Atletico will negotiate at £40m

Saul Niguez will reportedly push to join Manchester United in the summer transfer window – and Atletico Madrid could sell him for £40m.

Niguez is believed to be on a shortlist of defensive midfield options as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to strengthen his squad this summer.

The Premier League giants could face competition for the 26-year-old from Juventus and Paris-Saint Germain, who have also shown an interest after he played a crucial role in Atletico's La Liga title triumph.

But the Spain international would prefer a move to United, with Juve his second choice, according to The Mirror .

Niguez has a buyout clause of around £60million – but it is thought Atletico will listen to offers closer to the £40m mark.

The newly crowned La Liga champions are planning to sell players to fund their own recruitment as they cope with the financial impact of the pandemic.

Atletico director general Miguel Angel Gil said: “If Saul wants to leave Atletico there are no problems as long as the move is positive for all sides.”

Niguez is believed to earn around £115,000-per-week playing for Diego Simeone's side.

He is just one player on United midfield shortlist, along with West Ham's Declan Rice, who has also been linked with Chelsea and Man City.

And the Red Devils have also been linked with a move for Wolves ace Ruben Neves.

Neves could be available for around £35m, with Wolves also set for a squad revamp following the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo as manager.

But United have three other areas of their squad which will be prioritised ahead of central midfield.

Solskjaer is reportedly prioritising the capture of Jadon Sancho after a long-standing interest in the Borussia Dortmund winger.

United are also set to target a new centre-back following last week's Europa League final defeat to Villarreal.

And they are also considered among the favourites to land Harry Kane after the England striker signalled his desire to leave Tottenham.
