Unsettled Tottenham defender Serge Aurier has rejected a move to Wolves – as part of the deal taking Matt Doherty in the other direction.
The North Londoners value their Ivory Coast right-back at £20million and had hoped to see him leave for Molineux in part exchange for Doherty.
But ex- Paris Saint-Germain star Aurier, a £25m buy in July 2017, turned down the opportunity to link up with the Midlands club.
He wants a move back to Europe – with Italian outfit AC Milan his preferred choice and German club Bayer Leverkusen another possibility.
Republic of Ireland ace Doherty, 28, is still expected to complete his switch to Spurs in the next 48 hours. A £15m bid has been agreed and personal terms are close to being finalised.
But the future of Aurier, 27, who has refused to sign a new contract with Jose Mourinho’s men, remains more unclear.
Spurs say they have had no official offers for him from any club – other than Premier League rivals Wolves.
Both parties need that situation to change sooner rather than later as Aurier, with two years left on his £70,000-a-week deal in N17, will be surplus to requirements once Doherty puts pen to paper.
