Sporting boss Ruben Amorim tells Man Utd to appoint rival manager 'this week'

Sporting head coach Ruben Amorim has urged Manchester United to make it their priority to appoint Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.

United are searching for their next permanent manager to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with Michael Carrick installed as an interim option.

Ten Hag is one of the names on United’s radar, while Amorim, who played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo with Portugal, has also been linked with a surprise move to Old Trafford.

When asked about his link with United, Amorim replied: ‘We’re talking about rumours here. I was clear about my future last week.

‘Several names were thrown around. Therefore, they’re rumours that I don’t give much attention to.

‘However, if I may, I think Manchester United should sign Ten Hag this week. Now that would be something that would make me quite happy.’

Meanwhile, Ten Hag was asked again about a possible move to United on Tuesday but the Ajax boss is adamant that he is focused on his role with the Dutch club.

‘I am busy with Ajax,’ said Ten Hag.

‘No one contacted me, I can confirm this. I want to win titles here.’
