Thiago Alcantara is still waiting to seal his desired move to Liverpool this summer, with the Premier League champions struggling to meet Bayern Munich ’s €30million [£27million] asking price.
Liverpool have set their sights on a move for Thiago, who only has a year remaining on his current deal at Bayern.
As a result, the German champions are only demanding £27million upfront for his services this summer.
Though due to financial concerns amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Reds have reportedly submitted lower offers that include add-ons and performance-related bonuses – which Bayern have turned down.
And according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Thiago is now simply “waiting” on Liverpool to meet Bayern’s asking price, while Klopp is equally desperate to get the deal over the line.
“Thiago Alcantara is waiting because he strongly wants to move to Premier League this summer,” Romano posted on Twitter.
“Liverpool are still in contact with him but Bayern told again 2 days ago they’re going to sell Thiago only for €30m.
“Jürgen Klopp wants Thiago too. It’s up to the clubs.”
Thiago has raced up 235 appearances for Bayern since completing a £23million switch from Barcelona in 2013, scoring 31 goals.
The Spaniard has clinched seven Bundesliga titles and four DFB-Pokal crowns in his time at the club, as well as last season’s Champions League.
Liverpool fans hail Curtis Jones after noticing Rhian Brewster gesture
He proved a crucial member of Hansi Flick’s side in the 2019/20 campaign, helping them topple the likes of Barcelona, Lyon and Paris St-Germain on their way to European glory.
And European football expert Julien Laurens believes Thiago would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool.
“I think Thiago would look great in any midfield in the world right now, he’s that good,” Laurens said.

“He would bring something different that Liverpool don’t currently have. He would also be part of the press that the team plays with.
“He would maybe need a little bit of time to adapt, but he proved with Bayern Munich that he can do it, he can be part of that.”
“At that price, especially, even if there’s been a few injuries through the years and this season, I still think you take the risk.”
