Thiago Alcantara transfer: Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick admits Liverpool target’s future is undecided

Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick admitted that the future of Thiago Alcantara remains undecided following the club’s Champions League final victory over PSG.

Thiago played a pivotal role in Bayern’s 1-0 win, dictating the tempo of the game, and taking more touches and holding possession longer than any other player on the pitch.

Liverpool are interested in signing the 29-year-old, who has just one year remaining on his contract, but are unwilling to meet Bayern’s £27m asking price. Last month, Bayern’s chief executive, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, admitted that Thiago is open to a new challenge abroad.

“He told me he’s staying,” Flick joked when asked about Thiago’s future in his post-match press conference. “I just thanked him for our time together, just like I did with every other player.

“I don’t know and he doesn’t know yet either [where his future lies], because we all focused on this Champions League final.

“I think we will have to wait what the following days will bring.”

Meanwhile, on the opposing side, PSG manager Thomas Tuchel said a public farewell to captain Thiago Silva, who is in talks to join Chelsea now that his contract has expired.

“Thiago was my captain and it was a pleasure to have a player with quality and personality like him,” Tuchel said. “He extended his contract by two months. He gave his heart and his energy on the pitch, he gave everything to win the Champions League. He deserved to win it.

“We had difficult phases, it was a big disappointment. I’m absolutely proud he was my captain. We will now talk to the club, with him, to clarify the situation. No matter what decision he will remain my player. He is in my heart and it was amazing this trip with him.”
