Thiago ‘certain’ to join Liverpool after Bayern Munich Champions League win

Thiago Alcantara will now join Liverpool after helping Bayern Munich win the Champions League, according to respected German publication Der Spiegel.

The Spanish midfielder was in fine form as Bayern edged out Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the final in Lisbon thanks to a second half header from ex-PSG winger Kingsley Coman.

Thiago – who was on the pitch for 86 minutes of the match – made the most passes of anyone in the final, with his steady display in midfield helping his side take control of the game in the second period.

The 29-year-old still has one year remaining on his contract in Bavaria, but it has been widely reported that he will leave the club this summer, with Jurgen Klopp's Premier League champions stated to be at the front of the queue.

Der Spiegel have now added to those claims by reporting that the former Barcelona man is set for Merseyside.

Assessing Thiago's seven-year Bayern Munich career, they state that "it is certain that it will end now and Thiago will move to Liverpool, to Jurgen Klopp.

"To say goodbye with a Champions League victory would be a fitting conclusion."

Bayern boss Hansi Flick dicussed Thiago's future after the game on Sunday, initially joking to journalists that: "No, he told me he is staying."

After laughing that off he continued, adding: "You pulled a brilliant face!

"No, I just thanked him for our time together, just like I did every other player.

"I don't know and he doesn't know yet either (which club he will join), because we all focused on this Champions League final. I think we will have to wait for what the following days will bring."
