Atletico Madrid want to sign Valencia midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia as their replacement for Thomas Partey, according to reports. Partey joined Arsenal on transfer deadline day after the Gunners activated the Ghanaian’s £45million release clause. Atletico were left angry after neither Arsenal or Partey told them the clause was going to be triggered.

Meanwhile, Partey signed a four-year contract at Arsenal which left manager Mikel Arteta delighted.
Arteta said: “We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we’re now delighted to add such a high quality player to our squad,” Arteta said.
“He is a dynamic midfielder with great energy. He brings a lot of experience from a top club that has competed at the highest level in La Liga and the Champions League for several years.
“We’re very impressed with his attitude and his approach to the game.
“He’s an intelligent footballer and we’re looking forward to him integrating into our system and contributing to the progress we’re building at the moment at the club.”
Partey has joined up with the Ghana squad ahead of their matches against Mali on Friday and Qatar on Monday.
The midfielder will then join up with his new Arsenal team-mates in training next week.
Partey could make his Gunners debut in the trip to Manchester City on Saturday October 17.
