Tottenham backed to produce ‘masterclass’ as Jose Mourinho faces Frank Lampard

Tottenham travel to Chelsea on Saturday afternoon knowing a win will take them into the top four of the Premier League table for the first time since September.

Frank Lampard’s side are under pressure having dropped points in nine of their last 14 league fixtures including seven defeats.

Jose Mourinho’s side on the other hand have won three games in a row, with Kieron Dyer expecting a continuation of that run this weekend.

The Portuguese boss has been known to utilise defensive tactics before grabbing goals on the counter attack, as shown in the 2-0 win over Manchester City earlier this month.

The former England midfielder told BBC Radio 5 Live: “I think Mourinho’s got this mindset now with the injuries to obviously their two main guys up top.

“It’s like ‘We haven’t got the expectation now’, so it’s like the pressure’s all on Frank.

“I know Mourinho will be putting all the pressure on: ‘Oh, what do you expect me to do with the squad we’ve got and all these injuries?’.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if he does some kind of masterclass and gets a result because Frank [Lampard] definitely got it right tactically when they played earlier in the season and got one over Jose.”

The Blues won 2-0 in north London in December shortly after Mourinho had replaced the sacked Mauricio Pochettino after the Argentine lost his job in November.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid boss was left disappointed after this result, but he insists that Chelsea remain favourites to qualify for the Champions League this time around.

“At this moment, Tottenham, Manchester United, Arsenal, Sheffield United, Wolverhampton, Everton – we are the underdogs,” he said.

“We have ambitions to be there but we are one, two, three points behind Chelsea, so they have an advantage to all of us.

“That’s obvious. It’s not a big advantage but it is an advantage.

“Chelsea in this moment is favourite for the fourth position, considering Leicester has nine points more at this stage of the season.”
