Tottenham fans were left reeling after the club's official twitter account posted a tweet praising new signing Emerson Royal for his debut in Saturday's defeat against Crystal Palace.
Royal, who joined from Barcelona on transfer deadline day, was chucked into the starting XI by Nuno Espirito Santo due to the club's injury crisis.
He appeared to have a solid game, but Spurs' afternoon went downhill quickly after the sending off of Japhet Tanganga.
The defender was given his marching orders after receiving two yellow cards, leading to a defensive shift which saw Palace net three times in the last 15 minutes to secure an unlikely 3-0 win.
The defeat was Tottenham's first of the Premier League season, and was made worse by the fact they only had two shots on goal in the entire game.
And Spurs fans were less than impressed when the club's Twitter account decided to post out a tweet congratulating Royal on his debut.
The Spurs tweet simply read: "Debut." With a crown emoji and a picture of Royal defending against Wilfried Zaha.
But supporters were quick to question the decision-making behind the tweet, considering the nature of the defeat.
One fan replied: "we lost 3-0 lads", with another saying: "embarrassing".
Another responded: "Hi guys, Heads up..we got spanked 3-0, played crap, zero creativity and we’re (the fans) all pretty p***** off right now. Regards, Paul."
Some fans were even less impressed, with one bluntly writing: "Are you taking the pi**"
"There's nothing positive about this game admin, stop," one wrote.
