Trent Alexander-Arnold builds ultimate player using Liverpool stars and Messi

Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold has included Lionel Messi and three of his Reds team-mates when deciding his ultimate player.

The Reds defender, who is currently sidelined with a calf injury sustained in the draw with Manchester City, was asked by Goal to put together his perfect footballer.

The choices had to be players he played with or against, and was sectioned into eight different categories.

Barcelona star Messi was perhaps unsurprisingly Alexander-Arnold’s pick when it came to ‘left foot’ and ‘footballing brain’.

He also named PSG star Neymar when it came to ‘skills’ while Wolves ace Adama Traore was given the nod in the ‘speed’ category.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne was picked as the ‘right foot’ option with the rest filled by Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool team-mates.

James Milner was named for ‘stamina’ with Virgil van Dijk taking the ‘heading’ and Mohamed Salah the ‘strength’.

Alexander-Arnold had previously spoke about how he doesn’t like Salah in training, saying back in 2018: "During the week it's a nightmare because you're up against him.

"There's sometimes I don't really like him because he does that stuff to me.

"That's what he does day in, day out. It's just become second nature to him now and it's a credit to him.

"We're really happy to be playing with him rather than against him."

While the right-back said on Messi: “Messi sees things quicker than anyone, he can read what a defender is going to do and just dribble past him as if he’s not even there. It’s like he’s playing against mannequins.

“Messi has been doing things for 15 years that have never been seen before. He doesn’t have a weakness. There’s nothing I haven’t seen him do, and for that reason, he’s the best player ever.

“Even if Messi’s not looking your way, you’re concentrating on him because he can see things that you can’t.”
