Liverpool crock Virgil van Dijk is in attendance at Anfield this evening to watch his side take on Everton.

The Dutchman has been sidelined since the reverse fixture after being on the end of a crunching Jordan Pickford tackle.

Van Dijk has been stepping up his recovery in recent weeks, posting his gym workouts on social media.

But it is unlikely the defender will be back this season, meaning he once again has to take his seat in the stands for this evening's clash.

The former Celtic man was spotted on Sky Sports cameras taking his seat just before kick-off, donning a black facemask and Nike coat.

Van Dijk's absence has undoubtedly affected Liverpool and their dismal title defence this term.

A host of other injuries have hampered Klopp's side.

But the German admits his players weren't out for revenge this evening after Van Dijk suffered at the hands of the Toffees last time out.

“I don't know what I'll think back when the season is over.

"Hopefully I will think about something nicer than this [the Everton game in October]. It was an important day, for sure.

"Nothing will be carried over to tomorrow, that's how it is. A week later, two or three when we got the diagnosis for Virgil, it is good we didn't play Everton immediately again, let me say it like this. That's how it is, we are all human beings and it was not nice.

"Now, it's long gone and we just don't think about it anymore, but it's still a derby and that's enough to be motivated on the absolute highest level and trying to play the best possible football you can play."
