Van Dijk told he’s on a different level to Man Utd legend Vidic

Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic was a "dog" and a "fantastic defender", but Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk is "more complete".

That's according to former Chelsea star Frank Leboeuf, who was asked to pick between the two world-class defenders on their day.

Vidic won five Premier League trophies and the Champions League at Manchester United, where he formed one of the greatest defensive partnerships of all-time alongside Rio Ferdinand.

Van Dijk has won a solo Champions League, and was on his way to tasting Premier League glory this campaign before the outbreak of the coronavirus brought the season to a halt.

Leboeuf is a big fan of both defenders and praised them accordingly. But when asked to name the better of the two, the Frenchman selected Van Dijk.

He told ESPN FC : "I would go for Van Dijk. I think he's more complete.

"I loved Vidic, because I think he was a dog, and a fantastic defender. But Van Dijk can lead the team and has range.

"I don’t think Vidic was capable of doing that. Hats off to Vidic, though."

Van Dijk and his Liverpool team-mates are still in the dark in regards to how this season will pan out.

The Premier League has been suspended until April 4, but fixtures are likely to be postponed beyond this date.
