Dutch legend Wesley Sneijder believes Donny van de Beek’s move to a ‘fantastic club’ in Manchester United has come at the perfect time for the midfielder.
The 23-year-old completed the £40million switch to Old Trafford, signing a five-year contract.
Van de Beek arrives off the back of a series of impressive seasons for Ajax, in which he netted 41 goals in 175 appearances and helped fire the Dutch side to the Champions League final in 2019.
The midfielder had a deal with Real Madrid agreed prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced the Spanish giants to rethink their transfer strategy.
Former Ajax and Inter Milan star Sneidjer backs his compatriot’s move to Manchester and feels his game is better suited to the Premier League over La Liga.
‘Now is the right time,’ Sneijder told Voetbal International. ‘Manchester United is a fantastic club and I think he is a better fit there too.
‘English football suits him better than Spanish football.’
Van de Beek is a versatile midfielder that has an eye for goal, and is likely to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a selection headache next season.
Sneijder is in no doubt of the Netherlands international’s ability, he added: ‘He is a complete player. I really like his running actions.
‘He is someone who makes space, has a lot of depth and always looks for the right moments to go deep.
‘He is always in the right place and always keeps playing football.’
