West Ham are continuing discussions over a deal for Stuttgart defender Konstantinos Mavropanos after his medical showed up an issue.

The former Arsenal centre-back has been edging closer to confirming an £18million move to the London Stadium after the Hammers ramped up their interest in the player last week.

Mavropanos was not included in Stuttgart’s squad to face Bochum on Saturday ahead of his planned medical, with West Ham keen to prioritise the transfer after their £30m move for Harry Maguire collapsed last week.

The 19-cap Greece international was tracked closely by Nottingham Forest in July, and previously received interest from Wolves, with his sights set on a return to the Premier League after leaving Arsenal last summer.

The 25-year-old had spent two seasons on loan at Stuttgart from 2020, before making his move permanent in May 2022, and played a key role in helping the Bundesliga side stay in the top flight during their last campaign.

With the transfer window slowly beginning to shut, West Ham are keen to shake up their squad with a number of incomings.

David Moyes has revived interest in signing Sevilla forward Youssef En-Nesyri too, in a bid to finally bring the Morocco star to east London after abortive moves for the player in during the January windows of 2021 and 2023.

En-Neysri was keen to stay in Spain when West Ham made their approach earlier this year, but Sevilla were open to letting the starman go for the right fee, then valuing their player close to £35m.

Fulham target Hugo Ekitike is also being explored as a long-range attacking option by the club

Meanwhile midfielder Flynn Downes has made a season-long loan move to Southampton

Hugo Ekitike of Paris Saint-Germain is another under consideration though talks have still to advance.

The striker has also been eyed by Fulham as a possible replacement for their departing goal-machine Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has made the move to the Saudi Pro League and Al-Hilal for a club-record fee of £46m.

In terms of outgoings, Southampton have signed West Ham midfielder Flynn Downes on loan.

The 24-year-old featured for the Hammers 35 times during their last campaign, and previously played under Saints coach Russell Martin during his time at Swansea City.
