William Carvalho tops a four-man shortlist for Nottingham Forest

Big-spending Nottingham Forest eye ANOTHER midfielder with Real Betis star William Carvalho topping a four-man shortlist – with Steve Cooper already splashing out £73MILLION in pre-season

  • Nottingham Forest still eyeing a midfielder with William Carvalho top of the list
  • James Garner, Anton Stach, and Ibrahim Sangare are potential other targets
  • Forest are still working on signing Maxwell Cornet and Alex Moreno this summer

Nottingham Forest are still on the hunt for another midfielder to bolster their squad ahead of life back in the Premier League, with Real Betis star William Carvalho at the top of a four-man list.

The 30-year-old has played for the LaLiga side for four seasons but with his contract expiring next summer they are ready to cash in and he wants to leave.

The Portugal international, who has 73 caps to his name, has not travelled with Real Betis on their pre-season tour to England.

Carvalho is seen as the ideal signing to help compliment new signings Jesse Lingard and Orel Mangala in midfield, as boss Steve Cooper continues to splash the cash, spending £73.5m already this summer adding depth to his squad.

Forest are also exploring other options, including Manchester United youngster James Garner, who played a major part in the club’s promotion back to the top-flight while on loan last season.

The 21-year-old made 49 appearances in a defensive midfield role for Forest and it could be beneficial for both parties for him to return to the City Ground.

Although, a move for Garner seems unlikely given United have already sent goalkeeper Dean Henderson out on loan to Forest.

Anton Stach and Ibrahim Sangare are the two other names on Forest’s shortlist of midfield targets this summer.

Mainz midfielder Stach, 23, made 33 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga side after joining last summer.

PSV star Ibrahim Sangare is attracting interest from numerous clubs, especially given his £34million release clause.

The 24-year-old Ivory Coast international made 48 appearances in all competitions last season and notched four goals.

Sangare originally joined PSV in the summer of 2020 following an impressive spell in France with Toulouse.

Forest still want to add Maxwel Cornet from Championship side Burnley and another striker as well as bolstering their midfield.

Talks with Real Betis for left wing-back Alex Moreno remain ongoing with new signing Omar Richards expected to be out for up to three months with a hairline fracture.

The newly-promoted side have already made 12 summer signings as they return to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.
