As things stand, Manchester United won’t be sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. They’re adamant the Norwegian is the right man for the job and there have been bristles in suggestions he’s already under threat. However, that hasn’t stopped some fans from pining for the possible appointment of Zinedine Zidane.
Manchester United showed their support for Solskjaer by spending big back in the summer.
Jadon Sancho moved from Borussia Dortmund in a huge £73million deal, finally joining after four years of intense speculation.
United then proceeded to land Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, a decade after Sir Alex Ferguson first tried to snap him up.
Then, on deadline day, Cristiano Ronaldo made a Hollywood homecoming to his old club.
When Ronaldo signed, many thought United would take control of the title race.
After all, as one of the best players in world football, expectations were always going to be high.

However, aside from victories over Newcastle and West Ham, United have been far from convincing.
United have failed to win four of their last six matches across all competitions, recently drawing against Everton on Saturday.
And, amid their issues, some fans have called on Zidane to take charge.
Gabriel Agbonlahor even mooted his possible appointment following United’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend.
“Chelsea did it with Lampard. they got rid of Lampard, which was hard as he’s a club legend, but they got rid of him, they brought in Tuchel and look what’s happened,” he told talkSPORT.
“Manchester United need to now take Ole out of it, give him a job in the board somewhere, bring in Conte – he’ll get better out of these players.”

He then added: “Even his [Solskjaer] decisions during the game, Maguire was limping for 10 minutes before he brought him off.
“Big managers will take players off if they notice they’re not moving right.
“You need a goal in the last 10 minutes of the game and you bring on Cavani who has not really played much football this season.
“You got Lingard there who just came on against West Ham and put it in the top corner, you got Sancho who you bought for £70m. I just think some of his decisions have been miles off it.
“For me, Manchester United need to bite the bullet now.
“Bring in Conte who is out there, Zinedine Zidane is out there. Bring in a manager who will get better out of these players.”
The Frenchman is currently available after leaving Real Madrid back in the summer, where he’s since been replaced by Carlo Ancelotti.
But United aren’t likely to appoint him anytime soon because of two reasons; The first is that, as mentioned above, they’re committed to Solskjaer. They’re adamant he’s the right man at the right time, regardless of their recent slump.
And, secondly, because of concerns Zidane has himself.
It was reported by Bleacher Report in December 2018 that the Frenchman wasn’t interested in taking over.
And that’s because he didn’t want to damage his CV in a country where he has no experience, having never played or managed in the Premier League before.
The publication also stated at the time that Zidane would normally have been tempted to take over, having been a free agent at the time.
But he felt United were in such a disarray it would have been a risk on his behalf.
Regardless of whether he thinks United are in a better place now, supporters can still forget all about Zidane taking over because Solskjaer isn’t going anywhere for the time being.
