Richard Johnson returned from injury with a winner on the aptly-named Made For You at Musselburgh Racecourse.
At his strongest in the saddle, just 37 days after breaking his arm in a fall, the reigning champion drove the 7/4 favourite into a narrow lead at the finish.
The 42-year-old is now 19 winners behind Brian Hughes as he tries to retain the jockeys' title he has won four years in a row.
Johnson was runner-up 16 times in the championship to AP McCoy, but has kept the number one spot since he retired in 2015.
It was feared the injury, which he suffered on January 21 and required an operation, could scupper his chances of making the 2020 Cheltenham Festival.
However after rehabilitating he was passed fit by British Horseracing Authority doctor Jerry Hill.
At Cheltenham, his 2018 Gold Cup winner Native River is not competing this year as he is on the sidelines with a setback.
