MICK Price will aim Group 3-winning sprinter Our Playboy towards the $2m Magic Millions Guineas in January.
Our Playboy, a $210,000 2019 Magic Millions yearling, surged into Caulfield Guineas calculations in August with a big Vain Stakes win, then had no luck in the McNeil Stakes.
The Sebring colt, who finished sixth in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, will be sent to Queensland early to acclimatise.
“That was him at his best there (Coolmore),” Price said.
“But he is a Magic Millions horse and with his prizemoney he will get a run in the 1400 metre three-year-old race.”
Our Playboy is likely to only have a trial and one start at Eagle Farm leading into the Guineas on January 16 at Gold Coast.
“He’s eligible for the big prizemoney so we’ll have a look-see,“ Price said.
Price tasted Gold Coast success last January with He‘ll Haunt Us, who went on to be sold to Hong Kong interests and renamed Circuit Six, claiming the Magic Millions Maiden Plate.
Our Playboy has been worked in the clockwise direction at Caulfield to get used to racing on his Queensland leg.
“He was good,” Price said.
“He actually used to ‘hit’ himself going the Melbourne way so I’m thinking with a little break the reverse way might be good.”
Stablemate Right You Are will be monitored this week after pulling up “short” at Ballarat.
A post-race veterinary evaluation discovered no abnormalities with the well-beaten short-priced favourite.
Magic Millions graduate Skiddaw, who won impressively on Ballarat Cup Day for trainer Danny O’Brien, will head to Flemington next month before the stable considers other summer targets.
“At the moment we’ll just get him to Flemington… he’ll just try and go through his grades,” O’Brien said.
