Raceday focus: Best bets, analysis for Wangaratta on Thursday

Herald Sun form analyst Brad Waters runs the rule over Thursday’s card at Wangaratta.

KANIVA (Race 8 No. 12 – $5)

Kaniva is racing well with solid seconds behind handy types at her last two runs. She should get back on top of the ground for this and the Wangaratta track will suit her style.

POLYPHONIC (Race 1 No. 9 – $2.60)

This daughter of Japanese champion Deep Impact is out of a sister to Pierro, making her an extremely valuable filly. She showed she can gallop in her recent jumpouts so she’ll tough to beat on debut.

DOMFIORE (Race 3 No. 4 – $5)

Domfiore is improving with each start and looks a good chance to break through at Wangaratta if he repeats his honest effort at Echuca last time out. The slight distance drop won’t worry him.

JENKINS (Race 9 No. 3 – $4.40)

Jenkins is ready to win after three solid efforts this time in. He’s thriving racing in the 1600m distance range and he should get every chance again from barrier six.

TOORAK WARRIOR (Race 6 No. 3 – $18)

Toorak Warrior might be at such big odds because of his tricky barrier but he’ll tackle this assignment fresh from a sound effort at Cranbourne last time. Expecting him to run boldly on Thursday.

The Cox Plate-winning jockey makes the trip north to ride at Wangaratta on Thursday with five mounts throughout the day. POLYPHONIC (Race 1 No. 9 – $2.60), PRESS START (Race 2 No. 16 – $10), VENTISETTE (Race 3 No. 14 – $3), WITHOUT A CAUSE (Race 4 No. 7 – $13), SINGING SWORD (Race 6 No. 10 – $7.50).

Racing will head to the Pakenham Synthetic track on Friday. Saturday’s meetings will be at Flemington and Bendigo. Bairnsdale and Geelong will be the venues for Sunday’s provincial cards. Ballarat will race on the synthetic track on Monday before the synthetic theme continues on Tuesday at Pakenham.
