The British tennis star, 18, has impressed pundits so far with her incredible run at this year’s US Open. The teenager swept aside Shelby Rogers at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday, showing she was not put off by the American’s home advantage. Raducanu’s 6-2, 6-1 win booked her a spot in her first ever grand slam quarter-final. Standing in her way of a place in the last four is her Swiss opponent Belinda Bencic, who she takes on at Flushing Meadows this evening.

Their match will be shown at 5pm in the UK, with all the action broadcast live on Amazon Prime Video.

Since emerging onto the scene as a youngster, Raducanu has lit up the world of tennis both on and off the court.

The Toronto-born star, who grew up in Bromley, shone as a wild card at Wimbledon this year before pulling out in the third round due to “breathing difficulties”.

Raducanu has drawn fans for her friendly persona in interviews and her impressive rise has already seen her garner more than 160,000 Twitter followers.

A throwback interview with Sportsbeat from August 2020 saw the teenager open up about what drives her.

Speaking after her UK Pro Classic win over Sarah Beth Grey, Raducanu revealed her love for Formula 1.

However, she named McLaren driver Ricciardo as her favourite over British legend Lewis Hamilton, citing his “banter” and “laid back” attitude.

She said: “When I have time I love to watch Formula One and I’ve started to follow it week-by-week.

“I watched the British Grand Prix and Daniel Ricciardo is my favourite driver!

“Off the track it seems like there’s so much banter with him, and he’s super laid back and chilled, and I think once he gets in the car he’s also super fiercely competitive.

“As tennis players, we can learn a lot from their reactions – you have to see everything so fast because the speeds that they’re going at are unbelievable.

“Those reactions and instincts can relate a lot to tennis.

“The intensity of the focus is also similar and transferrable, but tennis is a lot more luxurious.

“If you make a mistake it’s not the end of the world but in F1 if you make a mistake, you’re in the wall.”

Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo slipped outside the points at the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday.

His British teammate Lando Norris finished 10th, taking home one point on what was a disappointing weekend for McLaren.

Raducanu will hope to avoid disappointment herself with her quarter-final clash against Bencic as she looks to make into her first ever grand slam semi-final.

Speaking to Sportsbeat, the teenager said she relaxes ahead of such occasions by watching F1 documentaries.

She said: “I love being on early as you know exactly when you’re on, but by the time I get home it might not be 4pm.

“There’s a documentary that I’m watching on Netflix called Drive to Survive, and I just recently got really into it.

“When I was younger I used to drive go-karts and do motocross, so I’ve just got a motor fix right now!”

After her Wimbledon run this year, Raducanu got the chance to indulge her “motor fix” as she attended the British Grand Prix in July.

Sitting in the VIP section, she rubbed shoulders with the likes of Arsenal footballer Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Tom Cruise.

She also got the chance to drive a McLaren car and completed a lap of Silverstone’s famous circuit.
